Common Name: Chukar
Subspecies: 14
|
|

|
Where to Find Them
Chukars prefer desolate terrain, congregating around cliffs, shale
slides and canyon slopes. If you're near water, cover and food all at
once, chances are you're near some chukars.
|
|
Behavior
Chukars love company, relying on their numbers to increase awareness
of potential intruders. If you've scattered a covey, chances are they'll
try and regroup in a relatively short time. Listen for their distinctive
"chuka-chuka" call as they start to locate one another and regroup.

|
When Flushed
Chukars tend to run uphill and fly downhill, although this won't always
be the case. Whenever possible, try to approach them from above to improve
your chances of sighting onto this elusive bird.

|
Remember
Don't get caught off guard by the confusion of a covey rise. Although
this bird is fast and evasive, you'll always do well by concentrating
your aim on one bird and just ahead of your target.
